As a Credit Risk Vice President within the Community Development Banking group, you will play a crucial role as an Underwriter supporting the Impact Finance & Advisory (IF&A) team. Your primary responsibility will be to collaborate with Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) to deliver loan capital that promotes inclusive economic growth in low-income communities. You will be involved in the preparation and presentation of credit approval packages, account management, and portfolio management. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to work across various business lines, including the Community Development Real Estate and New Markets Tax Credits teams, to finance affordable housing and other community development projects. Your work will align with the firm's philanthropic objectives, extending loans on flexible terms to CDFIs targeting specific geographic areas.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Analyze a CDFI’s audited financial statement and portfolio quality to assess its current strength and provide a summary of the organization’s current management, lending strategy and overall outlook.
  • Identify key credit risks in a transaction and communicate them in a clear and succinct manor.
  • Prepare credit approval packages and present to Investment Committee for approval.
  • Take a leadership role in closing new transactions including review of loan documentation.
  • Support the banking team in management of on-going client relationships and transactions. Engage directly with CDFI project-level and executive staff.
  • Manage a portfolio of accounts and collaborate with the servicing and portfolio management teams.
  • Support on-going valuation of loans within the portfolio.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and timely maintenance of accurate books and records.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:

  • Minimum of eight years in a lending function with experience structuring complex transactions or commercial real estate credit
  • BA/BS or Masters, with concentration in urban policy or management and/or accounting/finance/economics
  • Demonstrated passion for community development finance and/or social enterprise
  • Strong analytical and project management skills, with the ability to multi-task
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Dexterity with Excel, Powerpoint and Word.
  • Excellent teamwork and customer service
  • Ability to consistently deliver on commitments to colleagues and internal and external customers
  • Ability to handle ambiguous problems and persist until problem is resolved
  • Attention to detail
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and comfort with ambiguity

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills:

  • Advanced degree is preferred
  • Knowledge of CDFIs and experience with their different programmatic lending areas (charter schools, health centers, small business, etc)
  • Successful completion of credit training, understanding of commercial real estate, and knowledge of Community Development financing tools, including NMTCs and LIHTC
  • Working knowledge of JPMC add-ins a plus
