Job Description

The Corporate Loans and Financing Technical Team develops applications for the Global Equity Derivatives Corporate Loans and Financing trading desks. We work closely with our traders and Quantitative Research counterparts to design and develop applications and services that model the business’s processes and allow the management of the desks’ loan trades and their risk.

We are looking for a Senior Lead Software Engineer with a passion for software development who has hands-on experience of developing back-end and preferably also front-end software. Development is mostly done within the JP Morgan Athena platform using Python or proprietary programming paradigms built on top of Python as well as Typescript and React/Redux on the front-end. Athena also features a host of tools and libraries and a streamlined SDLC process for an efficient and enjoyable programming experience. The team is a DevOps team and we both build and maintain our software.

An important part of the role is a willingness to learn the details of the loans and financing business.

Existing knowledge of derivatives, equities or loans is a plus. Also, the ability to communicate well with a diverse range of people is essential.

Essential skills:

•Experience with development, deployment and maintenance of commercial service-oriented application(s)

•Experience leading a team, conducting code reviews, mentoring and guiding more junior team members

•Disciplined approach to code management, testing and deployment practices and high-quality delivery

•Business knowledge of simple derivative products (vanilla options, variance swaps, strategies involving vanillas): how these are used, how to price them, how to evaluate risk exposure using Greeks

•Programming experience with at least one modern programming language such as Python, C++, Java, Go etc.

•Knowledge of at least one relational database such as Sybase, SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, Postgres etc.

•Understanding of how to effectively utilize unit testing

•Experience of full project lifecycle, breaking requirements down into technical deliverables and effort estimation

•Ability to work effectively within a global team (spread across NA, EMEA, APAC etc.) while influencing and contributing towards the development of the global platform

•Great problem solving skills for problems with a mathematical/technological background

•Ability to work in a fast-paced team-oriented environment

•Good communication skills especially when describing problems and explaining solutions

Desirable (but not essential):

•Equities business knowledge is an advantage but relevant experience in other business areas is welcomed

•Unix or Linux knowledge

•Working knowledge of continuous integration and deployment processes

•Experience with project management or product ownership

•Experience with service -oriented platforms, and a good understanding of current generation open source frameworks

•Knowledge of object oriented databases

•Knowledge of cloud computing or similar compute farm processing
