Job Description

The APAC Markets Legal team is looking for a junior-mid level lawyer to join the legal team as an Assistant Vice President supporting the no. 1 ranked APAC equity derivatives business in the market.

As an Equity Derivatives Lawyer, Assistant Vice President within our APAC Markets Legal team you will be responsible for collaborating with the regional Sales, Trading and Structuring teams in structuring and negotiating cutting-edge and complex financial over-the-counter (OTC) derivative transactions, market access products and bespoke margin arrangements, and creating complex and bespoke algorithmic and discretion-based proprietary indices. You will also be advising on various new and existing hedging strategies and structures in multiple jurisdictions.

This role further provides excellent exposure to regulatory matters, as you will be advising the business on regulations around the globe affecting these transactions and structures, and advising on how to structure these to mitigate legal and regulatory risks. You will be able to work with internal stakeholders globally, external clients and regulatory authorities to navigate the intricate and ever evolving landscape of the derivatives world.

Job responsibilities

  • Supporting the transactions of the APAC equity derivatives business, both from a document negotiation and regulatory standpoint
  • Advising on and assisting in creating and maintaining various hedging transactions and strategies
  • Advising on new regulatory developments over time which impact on their business
  • Collaborating with legal colleagues, corporate functions and the front office teams globally to handle transactions, regulatory implementations and projects
  • Instructing and liaising with external counsel, and managing their output to maximise value to the business

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • A qualified lawyer with a minimum of 4 years of post-qualification experience (PQE)
  • A highly motivated individual with the willingness and aptitude to learn new areas of the law and to take on new types of tasks
  • Ability to communicate complex factual matters and present clear and concise legal advice clearly and succinctly
  • Effective negotiation skills or the desire to develop such skills
  • Team player with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Prior experience in OTC equity derivatives and/or any derivatives experience
  • Ability to speak, read and write in Mandarin
  • Experience working in a top-tier international law firm and/or financial institution
