The Lending Legal Practice Group for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) handles and advises on a broad range of lending matters for the Commercial and Investment Bank through a team located in London, Paris and Mumbai. Its coverage includes the CIB Markets business for which it advises on a variety of structured lending and loan trading transactions.

As an EMEA Lending Legal – Structured Lending (Markets) – Vice-President in Legal department you will be responsible primarily for reviewing, structuring and advising on a variety of markets lending and loan trading transactions including insurance risk trading transactions, receivables financing, debt margin lending, funds finance and secondary loan and emerging markets credit trading. You will be based in London but will work closely with business teams, risk and control areas and Legal colleagues globally.

Job Responsibilities

  • Pro-actively support business groups across EMEA with a specific focus on JPMorgan’s markets businesses and other offices globally which originate transactions, through structuring and advice on transactions including review and negotiation of legal documents throughout the life cycle of a loan from origination on, and providing advice guidance on risk assessment and solutions as well as advice on secondary loan and credit trading transactions
  • Liaise with the business teams, other control areas and colleagues in Legal in setting/maintaining documentation standards, internal policies, practice guidelines, and monitoring relevant legal, regulatory and documentation developments
  • Pro-actively share experience and know-how with colleagues in Legal, where appropriate globally. Provide training to the business and within Legal
  • Participate in Legal and firm-wide projects

Required qualifications, skills and capabilities

  • Familiarity with LMA-based lending documentation and experience in drafting contracts, contract documentation review and analysis, and providing summary presentations and abstracts – while a deep understanding of general lending and financing principles is a key skill for this role, experience with one or more of structured lending, funds finance
  • Adaptability, willingness to learn new transaction structures and lending areas and ability to apply existing skills to unfamiliar subject matter areas – you will be able to use and apply your general lending skills more broadly to a variety of other transactions.
  • Strong work ethic, high-level organizational skills, and ability to work independently and to manage a large volume of transactions and internal client questions simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and results driven.
  • Solid lending experience at a leading law firm or an in-house legal team at an investment bank.
  • Licensed to practice law and a member in good standing in the jurisdiction in which the position is based or otherwise in compliance with the in-house counsel registration rules of that jurisdiction.
  • Fluent English

Preferred qualifications, skills and capabilities

  • Foreign languages would be an advantage
  • Loan trading structures and documentation will be an advantage.
