Job Summary
As a Vice President / Executive Director within J.P. Morgan’s Global Equity Research Team, you will play a leadership role in the Australia Equity Research Team, which covers approximately 180 Australian and New Zealand listed companies across all major industry groups. The team is supported by specialists in equity strategy, financial databases, ESG, quantitative, and economic research. Our equity research products—including fundamental analysis, thematic reports, and working models—are produced, published, and distributed globally to institutional clients. Bespoke research and corporate access are also integral to our offering.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the production of industry-leading research and analysis for the Energy & Utilities sector, partnering closely with internal stakeholders and clients.
- Drive the creation of innovative and thought-provoking valuation work; collaborate with peers to produce cross-asset class research.
- Assess whether news and data are already reflected in security prices, and make high-conviction calls in dynamic and sometimes ambiguous market conditions.
- Anticipate and identify market trends ahead of competitors, serving as a trusted advisor to top clients and traders.
- Establish yourself as a recognized expert and thought leader in the Energy & Utilities sector, influencing market perspectives and client strategies.
- Conceptualize and design new modeling paradigms and frameworks to capture market opportunities.
- Oversee, mentor, and direct junior team members, ensuring effective allocation of modeling and research resources.
- Maintain strong client relationships by being accessible, proactive, and responsive to their needs; provide outstanding internal sales and trading coverage.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of models to capitalize on market and timing opportunities.
- Communicate research insights persuasively to both internal and external audiences, tailoring messaging to client needs and types.
- Uphold the firm’s risk management policies and comply with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
- Build trust with clients and internal partners by demonstrating a deep understanding of their needs and clearly articulating research ideas.
- Prepare and deliver impactful presentation materials and client meetings.
- Promote the full spectrum of the firm’s research platform and product offerings to clients.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
- 10-15 years of experience in equity research within an investment banking environment, with a focus on the Energy & Utilities sector.
- Deep knowledge of current market trends, drivers, and challenges in the Energy & Utilities sector.
- Strong understanding of the implications of news and events across various asset classes and investor types.
- Proven ability to develop new analytical approaches and frameworks to identify market opportunities.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and influence diverse audiences including clients, traders, and salespeople.
- Demonstrated leadership in building and retaining high-performing teams and talent pipelines.
- Track record of delivering high-impact research and thought leadership in a fast-paced environment.
