As a Sr Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Consumer and Community Banking division, you provide expertise and engineering excellence as an integral part of an agile team to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. You will leverage your advanced technical capabilities and collaborate with colleagues across the organization to promote best-in-class outcomes across various technologies to support one or more of the firm’s portfolios.

Job responsibilities

  • Contribute as database administration and development expert, working with application development teams to develop, execute and support database modernization/optimization/migration activities.
  • Provide thought leadership and modernization support to application development (AD) teams through the analysis, migration, and post migration efforts for their database footprints.
  • Partner with PaaS, DBaaS, and Cloud Delivery teams to resolve issues and influence implementation of self service capabilities to support the AD teams.
  • Contribute to and influence development of database modernization patterns.
  • Contribute to and influence tactical and strategic database modernization planning.
  • Contribute to the design and development of tools to accelerate modernization efforts.
  • Support AD teams in troubleshooting and resolution of production database issues.
  • Perform proactive reviews of database implementations to enhance performance and resiliency.
  • Serve as an escalation point to AD teams and facilitate effective communication across teams.
  • Create/define/maintain documentation supporting database modernization efforts, database standards, and best practices.
  • Provide direct mentorship to software engineers and AD teams, and lead or participate in learning activities to enhance the AD team database capabilities.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering database concepts and 5+ years applied experience.
  • 8+ years experience working as database administrator/engineer.
  • 7+ years of database development and configuration experience.
  • Demonstrable database design and architecture experience.
  • Demonstrable experience performing and managing database upgrades and migrations.
  • Experience with AWS and associated database services.
  • Experience supporting databases in DevOps.
  • Experience supporting/integrating DDL and DML with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GIT/Bit Bucket, etc.).
  • Demonstrable troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to adjust and adapt role to support team success.
  • Must be able to self-motivate to support delivery whether individually or as part of a team.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Direct experience with PostgreSQL, CockroachDB, and Cassandra databases.
  • Application programming experience with Java and/or Python.
  • Experience working in/with teams performing Agile software development.
  • Strong desire to master emerging technologies and share experience with other team members.
  • Experience supporting teams in upskilling database development and support competencies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
