As a Wealth Management Attorney on the J.P. Morgan Wealth Management Legal team, you will apply your strong subject matter expertise in banking and securities regulations to deliver strategic legal guidance on complex bank and broker-dealer matters. You will take ownership of key issues, drive initiatives with urgency, and demonstrate strong leadership by fostering trusted partnerships with senior business leaders and supporting the firm’s commitment to excellence.
Job Responsibilities
- Serve as senior legal counsel for banking, lending and digital products distributed through J.P. Morgan Wealth Management, with a primary focus on the intersection of retail/consumer bank and broker-dealer products and services.
- Take full ownership of legal and regulatory issues, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
- Provide ongoing, strategic advice and guidance on applicable banking and securities laws, rules, and regulations, including CFPB and Federal reserve Board regulations, UDAAP, and FINRA and SEC rules related to retail investors (including those banking and investing online).
- Interpret existing, contemplated, and proposed consumer banking and securities laws, rules, and regulations, and advise on the impact of changes.
- Collaborate closely with internal clients, including Advisors, Sales Management, Operations, Risk, and Controls, as well as colleagues in Legal, Compliance, and Risk functions.
- Demonstrate entrepreneurial leadership by identifying opportunities for process improvement, innovation, and growth within the legal function and broader business.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, inclusion, and professional development, mentoring and empowering team members to achieve their full potential.
- Work on special projects outside of normal responsibilities and demonstrate adaptability as needed.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
- At least 10 years of legal practice experience at a law firm, financial institution, government agency, regulator, or self-regulatory organization.
- Expert-level subject matter expertise in securities and banking laws, rules, and regulations relating to retail depositors, borrowers and investors.
- Expert-level subject matter expertise with respect to retail online services, including self-directed investing, and working knowledge of the evolution of digital assets (including stablecoins, crypto and tokenization);
- Proven experience leading and developing a team of professionals.
- Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to inspire, influence, and drive results.
- Strong ability to build and maintain effective client and colleague relationships.
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree. All candidates must be in compliance with relevant licensing requirements, including those of the jurisdiction where the role will be located, prior to commencement of employment.
- All candidates for roles in the Legal department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment.
