Job Description

At King Energy, we're on a mission to revolutionize the renewable energy sector by building, owning, and operating solar infrastructure on multi-tenant properties. We are looking for a passionate and experienced Financial Operations Manager to join our dynamic team and help us manage our growing portfolio of commercial and industrial (C&I) solar projects and associated financial functions. King Energy owns and operates rooftop solar arrays, sells that energy to offtakers, and bills those offtakers for their energy usage.

You will help build our financial operations function, while working directly with our asset management team and software development team. King manages electrical billing for thousands of tenants across hundreds of owned or operated solar installations. You will optimize our revenue cycle, all the way from statement generation and financial analysis through collections.

King Energy’s OneBill platform is redefining how energy billing works for multi-tenant commercial properties. By combining advanced data systems with deep utility expertise, OneBill delivers seamless, accurate, and transparent billing across California’s most complex energy environments — PG&E, SCE, and SDG&E.

You will be the business owner of the invoice-to-cash revenue cycle for our platform: monitoring billing runs, reconciling data, resolving anomalies, and ensuring customer billing accuracy. This is an independent, detail-oriented role that blends analytical rigor with operational excellence — ideal for someone who takes pride in ensuring the system works every time.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in financial operations, including complex billing and collections, or in a related utility or software setting.
  • Familiarity with utility or other complex billing. Knowledge of virtual net energy metering or community solar billing is a plus.
  • Experience with accounts receivable management and collections, including collections management platforms, dunning processes and call scripts.
  • Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills and a strong sense of client service.
  • Ability to work across finance, legal, tenant and technology teams.
  • Analytical mindset with a passion for diving deep into data and finding solutions collaboratively.
  • Highly organized with a talent for developing and implementing structured processes.

Responsibilities

  • You will drive the revenue cycle from billing through collections, while acting as the business owner of tenant billing. This includes articulating complex billing concepts to late paying customers through customer contacts via phone, email, and demand letters while negotiating payment plans to clear aging debts. You will manage aging reports and minimize overdue receivables.
  • You will relentlessly look for improvements in financial and operational areas to maximize the accuracy and efficiency of our billing processes.
  • You will optimize billing statements for comprehensibility, accuracy and customer experience. In this role you will work closely with the technology, finance, legal and tenant teams
  • You will be the master of your work destiny, while having autonomy and ownership over roadmaps, KPIs, priorities, and initiatives for the portfolio management team. You will have direct access and dialogue with C level executives and founders.
  • You will drive the systemization and automation of the program, including leveraging technology where available. King’s business model provides unique opportunities for the financial operations role, including billing and collections, to drive significant top-line value.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a related field.
  • Experience handling large data sets, including Excel, Salesforce and Jira.
  • Experience with collections and dunning processes, including customer outreach, call scripts, and collections management software platforms.
  • Strong analytical mindset: ability to trace through data flows and identify root causes of data inaccuracy.
