mpathic is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as Clinical Core Manager to assist in the continued development and improvements to our ML models and mTrial detections. This role will report to the VP of Clinical AI (Megan Greenlaw) and will be focused on leading the Clinical team’s data annotation efforts, including providing supervision to the data annotation team and serving as a gold standard annotator, developing and leading the training of future annotators, and supporting the Customer Success team to provide customer deliverables.
This role requires a background in Psychology or related fields and experience in human annotation for Machine Learning/AI. Successful candidates will have a track record of being a proactive, reliable person that balances solving problems on their own and consulting with supervisors. Consistency, communication, reliability, and follow through are important at mpathic.
ABOUT YOU:
- Ability to telecommute (e.g., internet and computer setup)
- Completed a masters or doctoral degree in psychology, counseling, social work or similar with minimum 5 years experience
- Experience with qualitative clinical coding systems in research or clinical practice
- Demonstrated history of remote work, telecommuting
- Interest in NLP, AI, ML, speech signal processing and other automated systems of assessing human behavior
- Experience with report writing for external stakeholders
- Previous supervisory experience
- Ability to provide constructive and timely feedback
- Good organizational skills, attentive to details, and able to multitask
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
- Comfort or past experience with Excel or Google Sheets and Slack
- Tolerates ambiguity and has tools for working through those moments of discomfort
- Awareness of the importance of confidentiality and the responsible handling of sensitive data
- Seeks out and integrates constructive feedback
- Brings knowledge of or active interest in learning about cloud-based machine learning systems, including monitoring and automated training (ML Ops)
- Loves all things automation and enjoys figuring out new ways to automate development processes
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Gold Standard Annotation Supervision and Support
- Serve as Gold Standard annotator for all mpathic labeling manuals and maintain reliability with the labeling team
- Label transcripts as needed across customers using mpathic’s proprietary system.
- Conduct the preparation for and leading of annotation team meetings
- Assign and track completion of annotator assignments
- Assist in the creation of synthetic data and sourcing data resources for mpathic detections
- Provide ongoing feedback and QA to the annotation teams
- Engage in timely responses and feedback to the annotation teams via Slack or the labeling platform
- Provide other administrative support to the VP of Clinical AI as needed
- Develop and update training for annotators and lead interviews and annotator onboarding
- Assist VP of Clinical AI in evaluation of current and custom detections, including assessment of current model fit and evaluation of detection definitions and thresholds
Ongoing Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams, Including ML
- Maintain current documentation of clinical contributions to model development (i.e. updates to labeling manual, when new labels were added)
- Collaborate with the VP of Clinical AI and the ML team to evaluate current model performance and devise targeted improvement strategies on a per-detection basis
- Assist VP of Clinical AI to ensure coverage for upcoming projects
- Maintain current knowledge of scientific literature related to empathy, statistics, and NLP
- Stay up-to-date on data management best practices
- Collaborate with ML team to develop a strategy for data acquisition
Assistance for Customer Success team
- Support Customer Success by serving as a clinical liaison, specifically regarding the execution of deliverables for customers, including reports
- Assist Customer Success team in ensuring all tasks, projects, and commitments to clients are fulfilled promptly and accurately
- Work cross-functionally with other teams, including Engineering, to manage timelines and oversee procedures to ensure on-time completion and delivery of services or products to the customer
- Maintain prompt and effective communication with clients in the absence of the Customer Success Manager, serving as the primary point of contact for inquiries from established clients with assistance from the VP of Clinical AI

Compensation:
Base Pay + Equity + Benefits
A reasonable estimate of the base pay range for this role is $70,000- $100,000. Any offered base pay is based on a wide array of factors including but not limited to skillset, experience, training, location, scope of role, management responsibility, etc.
Following our Equal Pay Commitment, we have salary banding and established vesting schedules for equity.
